2022 Summer Schedule at GCPC
The Nuts and Bolts
No Sunday school June-August
Sunday Night Fellowship (SNF) will meet the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month (June 12 & 26, July 10 & 24, August 14 & 28)
We will use that time to discuss the first six (6) chapters of Gentle and Lowly (one chapter each evening), the book we gave out a few months ago.
Prayer and Praise will move to the Sunday school hour of the first Sunday of those months.
There may be opportunities for sermon discussion or Q&A or round table discussions on certain topics of interest during the Sunday school hour of other Sundays.
The snack / fellowship time after worship is not affected by these changes.
What Is SNF?
If you’ve been around GCPC long enough, you remember our regular evening pattern, pre-building, pre-COVID, pre-Sunday school, of meeting in homes on the 2nd and 4th Sunday evenings of each month for fellowship and prayer. We’ll do the same thing this summer, but with the officers each taking the lead in a discussion of Gentle and Lowly.
Hosting
If you would like to host, you can select “Host SNF” in the Church Center app or you can click this link (it will take you to the web-based version of Church Center). If the evening you plan to host has already been taken, you’ll see “full” in red once you click that date.
Food
Everybody brings food to share. We won’t really have a sit-down meal, just finger foods we can eat while visiting with one another.
The Rationale
The Growth in Grace Committee began considering topics for Sunday school during the summer and looking at the number of people available to serve in the nursery and decided to recommend to the session this change. That Committee also communicated with Fellowship and Service before sending that recommendation to the Session to make sure none of their plans would be affected. So, in effect, this recommendation was reviewed by two Committees before going to the Session which unanimously approved it. It seems like a wise way to maintain a ministry of teaching and training, invest a little more in our fellowship, create an avenue for outreach, and relieve some of the burden of work in a small church.
An Encouragement
Let me encourage you to do two things during these next several months. First, commit to being at SNF. It’s a great opportunity to be with your church family in a relaxed, family-friendly, comfortable setting and to discuss this influential book together. Second, this might be a great opportunity to include people you may know who are either looking for a church or who might benefit from the fellowship of these evenings together. Consider inviting a friend.
